Creating the Granules
After creating the 22K gold alloy, I used a rolling mill and drawplate to create thin wire. To make granules, the wire is clipped into tiny pieces, spread on a soldering plate and heated with a torch until drawn into a sphere. Each granule is about .5mm in diameter; some artists prefer exact diameters and use screens to sift and separate granules.
The remainder of the process is attaching the granules to the base metal; this is based more on chemistry and is not very visual, so there are no further photographs of the process.
